If an IP address is attacking your site, sending spam through your forms or using too many resources, you can block it from your cPanel.
1. Log in to cPanel (see how to log in to cPanel).
2. In the Security section, click IP Blocker.
3. Enter what you want to block. Examples are shown under the box:
- A single IP: 192.168.1.18
- A range: 192.168.1.10-192.168.1.20
- A CIDR block: 192.168.1.0/24
- A domain name, which is resolved to its IP address.
4. Click Add. The address appears in the list of blocked IPs at the bottom of the page.
5. To remove a block, click Delete next to the address.
If you cannot reach your own site, your IP may be blocked by the server firewall instead; see cannot open your website or cPanel from your computer.
How do I find the IP address to block? #
You can see your visitors’ IP addresses in your access logs; see how to view your website visitors in cPanel. Look for an address that sends an unusual number of requests or keeps trying pages such as wp-login.php.
Good to know #
- IP Blocker only blocks access to your website. It does not block email or FTP.
- If your site runs through Cloudflare, it is better to block the address in your Cloudflare dashboard (IP Access Rules), so it is stopped before it reaches your hosting.
