In short: In most themes go to Appearance → Menus, pick an item on the left (page, post, custom link or category) and click Add to Menu, drag to reorder, then click Save Menu. To remove an item, open it and click Remove. In modern block themes, menus are in Appearance → Editor → Navigation.
Add a menu item (classic themes) #
- In the dashboard go to Appearance → Menus.
- Select the menu to edit at the top, or create a new one.
- From the left column choose the item type: Pages, Posts, Custom Links or Categories.
- Tick the item and click Add to Menu.
- Drag and drop to reorder. To make a sub-menu item, drag it slightly to the right under its parent.
- Under Menu Settings choose where it appears, such as the primary menu.
- Click Save Menu.
Remove a menu item #
- In Appearance → Menus click the arrow next to the item to open its settings.
- Click Remove.
- Click Save Menu. Removing an item from the menu does not delete the page itself.
In block themes (such as Twenty Twenty-Four) #
- Go to Appearance → Editor → Navigation.
- Select the menu and click + to add a page or link.
- To delete an item, click the three dots (⋮) next to it, then Delete.
- Click Save.
