In short: In the WordPress dashboard go to Pages → Add New Page, type the title and content in the editor, then click Publish. Pages are for static content such as “About us” and “Contact”, while news and regularly updated topics belong in posts.
Steps to add a new page #
- Log in to the dashboard at yoursite.com/wp-admin.
- From the sidebar choose Pages, then Add New Page.
- Type the page title at the top of the editor.
- Add content: type directly, or click the + button to add a block such as a paragraph, heading, image or button.
- In the sidebar (Page tab) set the permalink, the parent page if it is a sub-page, the template if your theme offers more than one, and the featured image.
- Click Preview to check it, then Publish. Not finished yet? Click Save draft.
After publishing, add the page to your site menu so visitors can reach it: see how to add and remove menu items.
Pages vs. posts in WordPress #
- Page: static content not tied to a date, such as Home, About, Contact and Privacy Policy. Pages have no categories and do not appear in the blog.
- Post: dated, regularly updated content that appears in the blog and is organized with categories and tags. See how to add a post in WordPress.
Tips #
- Keep the permalink short and clear, such as /about.
- To make a page your homepage: Settings → Reading → A static page, then select it.
- Use subheadings (H2, H3) to structure the content; it helps readers and search engines.
