How can I combat spam Mail?

Spam is one of the biggest annoyances for business email. Hyyat Host hosting includes a spam filter built into cPanel called Spam Filters, powered by SpamAssassin. It checks every incoming message and gives it a score; the higher the score, the more likely it is spam.

Turn on the spam filter #

1. Log in to cPanel.
2. In the Email section, click Spam Filters.
3. Turn on Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam. Every incoming email is now checked, and ***SPAM*** is added to the subject of spam messages.

Main settings #

• Spam Threshold Score: the default is 5. Messages with this score or higher are treated as spam. Lower it (for example to 4) for a stricter filter, or raise it if genuine messages are marked as spam.
• Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box): moves spam to a spam folder instead of your inbox. Check this folder from time to time, because a genuine message may end up there.
• Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete): permanently deletes messages above a score you set. If you use it, set a high score (for example 10 or more) so important messages are not deleted.
• Additional Configuration (For Advanced Users): add addresses or domains to the whitelist so they are never marked as spam, or to the blacklist so they always are. You can use wildcards such as *@example.com.

Tip: do not whitelist your own domain, because spammers often fake your own address.
