Your domain name is one of the most important decisions for your online presence, because it will stay with you for years. With Saudi domains there is an extra rule: the name must have a clear relationship with its owner. Here is how to choose a name that gets accepted the first time you register a Saudi domain.
The key rule: a link between the name and the registrant
The registration regulations require a relationship between the domain name and the registrant. This is usually met in one of these ways:
Matches your entity name: the domain matches one or more words of your official company name.
A logical abbreviation: such as the initials of your official company name.
A registered trademark: the domain matches a trademark you own in Saudi Arabia.
A close relationship: the name refers to a product, service or project you offer, explained when you apply.
A practical example
Suppose your official company name is “Al Nukhba Trading Company”:
✅ Usually accepted: alnukhba.com.sa, alnukhba.sa, النخبة.السعودية, nukhba-trading.sa
❌ Usually rejected: trading.sa (a generic word that does not identify you), company.sa, or a two-letter abbreviation that does not logically represent your name.
Words like “company”, “establishment” or “trading” are ignored when evaluating abbreviations, so do not build your domain on them alone.
Tips for a strong domain name
Keep it short and memorable: shorter names are easier to type and share.
Easy to spell and pronounce: avoid words that can be spelled several ways in English.
Limit hyphens and numbers: they cause typing mistakes.
Register several extensions: such as .com.sa and .sa for the same name to protect your brand.
Prepare your details for verification: your CR number or National ID, since the registrant is verified through Nafath, and make sure the name matches your registration or trademark to avoid delays.
For individuals: registering your personal name
Individuals can register their names under .pub.sa, .sa or .السعودية, with Nafath verification using their National ID. A first name or family name alone is usually not accepted, but you can add a number or combine two names, such as ahmad7.sa or ahmad-alfulani.sa.
