# How to Register Private Nameservers for Your Domain

**In short:** Private nameservers (like ns1.yourdomain.com) are for dedicated server, VPS and reseller clients. To register one: Domains → My Domains → click the domain → "Private Nameservers", enter the nameserver and IP under "Register a NameServer Name" and click "Save Changes". The same page lets you change the IP or delete it.

Private nameservers put your own domain in the nameserver names instead of the host's, so your clients see your brand. You need a server with a fixed IP running DNS, and you usually register two: `ns1` and `ns2`.

## How to register private nameservers

1. Log in to the [client area](https://www.hyyat.com/en/knowledgebase/explain-how-to-enter-the-client-area/) with your email and password, or with the Google account linked to it.
2. Open [Domains → My Domains](https://www.hyyatdomain.com/clientarea.php?action=domains&language=english) and click the domain you want.

1. In the "Manage" sidebar, choose **Private Nameservers**. You will find three parts:

| Part | When to use it | What to enter |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1. Register a NameServer Name | To create a new nameserver | The name (like ns1) and its IP |
| 2. Modify a NameServer IP | When the server IP changed | The name, current IP and new IP |
| 3. Delete a NameServer | When you no longer need it | The nameserver name |

1. After filling the part you need, click **Save Changes** under it. You will see "The nameserver was successfully registered".
2. Repeat for the second name (ns2), then use both under [Nameservers](https://www.hyyat.com/en/knowledgebase/change-domain-nameservers/) for the domains you want on your server.

 **Before deleting:** move any domain using this nameserver to other nameservers first, or its site and email will stop.

### Which IP do I enter?

The IP of the server running DNS for your domain; ideally a different IP for each nameserver if available.

### When does it start working?

Usually within hours; propagation can take up to 48 hours.

### Do I need shared hosting for this?

No. It is for dedicated, VPS and reseller clients. Shared hosting clients use r71 and r72.

### I got an error when saving.
