# How to Fix “Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to proceed”

If you see the message **"Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to proceed"** when opening ChatGPT or another website, it means your browser or network is **blocking the verification page** Cloudflare uses to confirm you are human. The problem is usually not the website itself, and in most cases it is easy to fix.

## Why does this message appear?

Many websites, including ChatGPT, are protected by Cloudflare. Before you get in, the page loads a small verification tool from challenges.cloudflare.com. If something prevents that tool from loading, you see this message and cannot continue. The most common causes are:

- Ad-blocking or privacy extensions in your browser.
- A VPN or proxy.
- A filtering DNS service such as AdGuard DNS or Pi-hole.
- Antivirus software or a firewall.
- A work or school network that blocks some domains.
- JavaScript or cookies disabled in your browser.

## 10 fixes, from easiest to hardest

1. **Try a private (Incognito) window.** If the site works there, a browser extension is most likely the cause.
2. **Disable ad blockers** such as uBlock Origin, AdBlock or AdGuard for this site, or add challenges.cloudflare.com to the allow list.
3. **Turn off your VPN or proxy** temporarily, then reload the page.
4. **Change your DNS settings** back to automatic, or to a public DNS such as 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, if you use a filtering DNS.
5. **Enable JavaScript and cookies** in your browser settings, and allow cookies for this site.
6. **Clear your browser cache and cookies**, then close and reopen the browser.
7. **Update your browser** to the latest version, or try another browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
8. **Make sure your device date and time are correct** and set automatically. A wrong clock makes the verification fail.
9. **Temporarily disable web protection in your antivirus**, or add challenges.cloudflare.com to its exceptions.
10. **Try another network**, such as mobile data instead of your work Wi-Fi. If the site works, your network is blocking the domain, so contact its administrator.

## Are you a website owner and your visitors see this message?

If your visitors complain about this message, your Cloudflare security settings may be stricter than needed. In the Cloudflare dashboard, review **Security Level**, **Bot Fight Mode** and **Under Attack** mode, and relax them if you are not actually under attack. You can also pause Cloudflare temporarily from your Cloudflare dashboard (Overview > Advanced Actions > Pause Cloudflare on Site) to confirm the cause.
