# How to Set Reverse DNS (PTR) for Your Cloud Server

**In short:** To set reverse DNS (a PTR record) for your cloud server: log in to the client area, go to Services, then My Services, and choose your server. Under Server Quick Actions click Networking, then Confirm. Click the pencil icon (Edit Reverse DNS), enter the hostname and click Confirm. To return to the default, click Reset Reverse DNS.

## What is reverse DNS?

A normal DNS lookup finds the IP address of a domain name. Reverse DNS (rDNS) does the opposite: it finds the hostname linked to an IP address, using a PTR record. Mail servers use it to check senders, so a correct reverse DNS helps your server's emails avoid spam folders. It is also used to identify servers in logs and network tools.

## Set reverse DNS

**1.** Log in to the [client area](https://www.hyyatdomain.com/clientarea.php) (see [how to log in to the client area](https://www.hyyat.com/en/knowledgebase/explain-how-to-enter-the-client-area/)).
